Choose the right one on its shape before its material: the width, the flare of the drops and the height at which it places your hands.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eOn gravel, flare gives control\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eFlare opens the drops outwards: 10° on the Streem road bar, 18° on the \u003ca href=\"\/en\/products\/ritchey-wcs-butano-alloy-gravel-handlebar\"\u003eWCS Butano\u003c\/a\u003e, 24° on the VentureMax. On a 42 cm Butano, the drops measure 48.6 cm: each hand holds the bar 3.3 cm further from the stem, a lever arm about 16% longer when a stone knocks the front wheel off line. The limit is the brake lever: it follows the curve and tilts outwards as the drops open. At 18°, the wrist keeps its road position; at 24°, the \u003ca href=\"\/en\/products\/ritchey-wcs-venturemax-alloy-gravel-handlebar\"\u003eWCS VentureMax\u003c\/a\u003e is aimed at the loaded bike.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eDrop and reach: your position in the drops\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eDrop is the height between the tops and the drops of the handlebar. At 102 mm, the VentureMax lowers your hands only a little when you move to the drops, and the position can be held for hours, handlebar bag included. On the road, the \u003ca href=\"\/en\/products\/ritchey-wcs-streem-alloy-road-handlebar\"\u003eWCS Streem\u003c\/a\u003e works on the tops: in size 38\/42, 38 cm at the hoods brings the forearms closer together to cut through the air, and 42 cm in the drops holds the bike steady on descents.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eCarbon or aluminium, for the same shape\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe VentureMax comes in both materials for the same position. The carbon Superlogic weighs 235 g in 42 cm, and Ritchey impact-tests it and then fatigue-tests it, because a gravel handlebar always takes a knock sooner or later. Carbon comes with its own torques: 5 Nm maximum at the stem clamp, torque wrench in hand.
