Two years later, he was building up to 150 frames a year for a shop in Palo Alto, California, and in 1978 he put together his first mountain bike. Ritchey MountainBikes was born the following year, and in 1988 Tom was inducted into the first Mountain Bike Hall of Fame. His components follow a standard he learned from his friend Jobst Brandt: save grams without giving anything away in strength.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWCS, Superlogic and the Switch system\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eWCS handlebars arrived in 1991, the Superlogic carbon range in 2009, the VentureMax in 2016. The \u003ca href=\"\/en\/products\/ritchey-wcs-butano-alloy-gravel-handlebar\"\u003eWCS Butano\u003c\/a\u003e is named after a state park in Northern California whose trails Tom still rides. The Switch system links stem, headset and spacers: the housing runs under the \u003ca href=\"\/en\/products\/ritchey-wcs-switch-road-gravel-stem\"\u003eWCS Switch stem\u003c\/a\u003e and enters the frame without touching the bearings. The workshop tip: Switch spacers go on and come off without disconnecting a cable, so adjusting handlebar height means neither cutting a hose nor bleeding a brake.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eTested beyond the standard\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eEvery bike part has to pass the ISO 4210 safety standard. Ritchey sets itself protocols it says are at least twice as severe, on its own MOAB I and MOAB II test rigs, and also has its products checked by independent labs, including SGS. Tom even designed his own wheel testing machine, named JOBST in tribute to his mentor. The carbon \u003ca href=\"\/en\/products\/ritchey-superlogic-venturemax-carbon-gravel-handlebar\"\u003eSuperlogic VentureMax\u003c\/a\u003e goes through impacts and then fatigue cycles.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eWhy MAAKE carries it\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eFor a brand that does not lock you in: the Butano Ridge carbon cockpit fits a Switch headset or, with an adapter, FSA, Token, ENVE or Acros headsets.
