The clamp goes around the frame's seat tube, whose wall adds a few millimetres. So measure the outside diameter of the tube with a calliper, just below the current clamp. Hope requires a tube within 0.5 mm of the clamp size, and makes its clamps in seven diameters, from 28.6 to 39.7 mm.

Bolt or quick-release

The Seat Clamp Bolt clamps with an M6 stainless bolt and a spherical-seat nut that self-align: it is the clamp you fit once and for all, on a rigid or dropper post. The Seat Clamp QR adjusts height without tools, useful on a shared bike or when travelling. Its lever pivots on an IGUS bushing that needs little maintenance. The honest downside: a saddle on a quick-release also comes off without tools. Both share the same 2014 T6 aluminium body and the six colours of Hope rotors.

Tighten it right, especially on a dropper post

A clamp doesn't need force, it needs the right torque. 6 N·m on an M6 bolt already means around 5,000 N of tension in the bolt, half a tonne closing the slot in the tube. Beyond that, you crush a carbon post or ovalise the body of a dropper post like the KS LEV Ci, which starts to stick. Hope gives 6 N·m for the bolt version, 5 N·m with the lever closed for the quick-release, and slightly less if the post no longer slides freely. For a carbon post that slips, carbon assembly paste is better than another turn of the key. Seatposts give their own maximum torque in their specifications.

The Hope Seat Clamp Bolt clamps the seatpost with an M6 stainless bolt with a spherical seat, and its nut.
