Fork bags come in when the saddle, the handlebar and the frame triangle are already full. Sitting on the fork legs, they carry weight lower than any other bag. The Cyclite Fork Bag 01 holds 3.1 L per side in a flat, narrow wedge shape that keeps the volume close to the fork leg, and an internal structure stops it from bulging. This is the place for dense items: food, stove, cook kit.
A single full bag puts weight on one side of the front wheel, and the steering feels it. Cyclite recommends riding two, loaded to equal weight, and limits each bag to 3 kg: a full pair carries up to 6 kg on the fork. A bikepacker's tip: weigh both bags before you set off, and split the same items across both sides rather than putting the cook kit on the left and the food on the right. Also check the load your fork manufacturer allows: the lower of the two limits is the one that counts.
The Fork Bag 01 bolts onto two threaded bosses per fork leg, the fork's “eyelets”, spaced 64 mm apart. Without bosses, an adapter fitted on the thru-axle, sold separately, creates the mounting points. A workshop tip: a drop of low-strength threadlocker on the supplied M5 bolts, then check they are still tight after the first stage, because the vibrations of the trail put them to the test.
With a pair of fork bags, the roll under the handlebar can stay shorter and leave room for your hands. Handlebar bags take the bulky gear, frame bags the densest, and the rest of your bikepacking load is spread around the centre of the bike.
Yes, with an adapter fitted on the thru-axle, sold separately, which creates the mounting points. On a fork with bosses, the Fork Bag 01 bolts on directly, to two bosses 64 mm apart on each fork leg.
Cyclite allows 3 kg per bag, but your fork's maximum load may be lower: whichever is lower is the limit. Load both sides with equal weight.
Two, with equal weight: a single loaded bag unbalances the front wheel and you feel it in the steering. The Fork Bag 01 is sold singly, left or right, and as a pair.
