Elitewheels was born in Xiamen, in south-east China. Its founders, Tony Tong and Jack Chen, studied engineering together in 2009 and were already designing part-time for carbon wheel factories. In 2013, they set up the parent company, which designs rims and hubs, and makes and builds wheels for European brands. In 2015, the factory took on Japanese FANUC CNC machines to machine its own hubs, and the Elitewheels brand was born.
From 2016, Elitewheels developed its own fibres and resins, hence its UNI fibre, an in-house resin combined with Toray carbon. Today it makes the prepreg, the rims, the hubs and the wheels, with a claimed capacity of 100,000 rims a year and 32 patents. The most visible is the rim of the Helix SS, whose depth rises and falls all the way round: a patented profile to handle crosswinds.
Every wheelset goes through more than 20 lab tests and the UCI vertical impact test. The brand adds its own impact test and claims wheels at least twice as strong as the UCI requires. Profiles are developed in CFD simulation, some go into the wind tunnel at Silverstone, and the wheels race with UCI Continental teams the brand supports.
For its technical transparency. Elitewheels publishes its spoke tensions, machining tolerances and building instructions: with these figures, a workshop can set the wheel with a tension meter like any other spoked wheel. On the Drive II, the carbon spokes can even be replaced like steel spokes. These are carbon wheels you can understand, maintain and have repaired. At MAAKE, the range runs from the Marvel II, for a first carbon wheelset on the road, to the Drive G42 for gravel on wide tyres: they are all in our wheelsets.
In Xiamen, China. Elitewheels makes its own carbon prepreg, rims and hubs there, and builds the wheels there too.
Like every product bought from MAAKE, they are covered by the 2-year legal guarantee, and MAAKE follows up the claim with the brand. For repairs, Elitewheels has relied since 2022 on a worldwide network of service centres.
The Marvel II for a first carbon wheelset on the road, in 36, 50 or 65 mm. The Drive range for racing, with carbon (CS) or steel (SS) spokes. For gravel, the Drive G36 is aimed at racing, the Drive G42 at 40 to 60 mm tyres.
