Chainrings
Double chainrings for road, and single chainrings for road, gravel and MTB, with the spiders and bolts that go with them. Choose them on the crank interface and the chain, then on the tooth count.
Double chainrings for road, and single chainrings for road, gravel and MTB, with the spiders and bolts that go with them. Choose them on the crank interface and the chain, then on the tooth count.
A chainring is chosen on its mount before its tooth count. The selection covers four: Shimano 110 × 4 on the Cybrei doubles, Easton Cinch, SRAM 8-bolt, and Garbaruk direct mount, reserved for the brand's own cranks. The classic trap: 110 × 4 spaces its four bolts unevenly, and a five-hole 110 chainring will not fit it. The Cybrei 110 × 4 spider connects a Cybrei crank to a double chainring.
Cybrei pairs its chainrings: 50/34, 52/36, 54/38 or 56/40. Changing pairs shifts the range without changing the jump: the front derailleur, reset to the height of the outer chainring, handles the same gap. The Metarbon Aero combines a carbon body with aluminium teeth, the Evo comes in eight colours, and the inner chainring is sold on its own so you can change just that one.
Without a front derailleur, the teeth alternate wide and narrow to fill the outer and inner links: the chain no longer has the play to drop off. This AXS profile needs a SRAM Flattop chain. Solid face or hollow is a trade-off: on a DUB WIDE crank, the hollow STONEDW Hollow weighs 1.8 to 6.9 g less and is quieter, while the solid Aero flexes less in a sprint.
With a single chainring, a chainring that is too big costs you on the climbs. Two teeth fewer on a 32 shorten each pedal revolution by about 6% on every cog; going from 40 to 44 teeth lengthens it by 10%. Stone recommends 36 or 38 teeth for all-terrain gravel, 40 to 44 for all-round gravel, and 44 or 46 for speed.
According to Stone, 36 or 38 teeth off-road, 40 to 44 for all-round gravel, 44 or 46 to ride fast. Choose based on your steepest climb, with the largest sprocket on your cassette.
Yes: Cybrei outer chainrings and the inner chainring are sold separately, on the 110 × 4 Shimano standard. Keep the 16-tooth gap of the Cybrei pairs to keep the jump the front derailleur is designed for.
Stone chainrings with an AXS profile need a SRAM Flattop chain, AXS 12-speed or T-Type depending on the model. Garbaruk chainrings also accept 9-, 10- and 11-speed chains, Shimano HG+ and KMC.
