More tyre means more air, and air is what makes the comfort: a tyre's volume rises roughly with the square of its width, so a 50 mm holds about 55% more air than a 40. It runs at lower pressure without bottoming out. The Evolve CIMA GR takes 50 mm with a single chainring, 45 mm with a double. The WinSpace G5 goes up to 58 mm at the front and 53 mm at the rear. There is a reason for the difference: the front wheel carries less weight, so it takes a wider, softer tyre that holds its line on descents, while a narrower, firmer tyre keeps the rear efficient.
A wider tyre raises the wheel axle, and trail increases with it. On the CIMA GR in size M, Evolve publishes 60 mm of trail with a 30 mm tyre and 67 mm with a 50. The maths confirms it: at a 71° head angle, each millimetre of radius adds 0.34 mm of trail, and a 50 raises the axle by about twenty millimetres. More trail means calmer steering when the track deteriorates. Evolve also matches fork offset to size: 54 mm from XS to M, 50 mm above.
On the CIMA GR, a single chainring frees up room for a 50 mm tyre and takes both mechanical and electronic groupsets; the double is limited to electronic. Its top cap is designed for the Kreuza Apex GR handlebar. The G5 takes a single chainring of up to 50 teeth or a double up to 48/31, and hides a hatch in the down tube, closed by a FIDLOCK magnetic lid, where the Kreuza Internal Tool Bag stores what you need for repairs. Its stock fork is rigid; WinSpace offers an optional RockShox fork with 30 mm of travel. For a frame designed for suspension, see our forks.
In our selection, up to 50 mm on the Evolve CIMA GR with a single chainring and 45 mm with a double, up to 58 mm at the front and 53 mm at the rear on the WinSpace G5. The actual width also depends on the rim and the pressure: check the clearance once the tyre is fitted.
A single chainring is simpler and leaves more room for the tyre. A double keeps tighter gaps between gears, useful if you also ride a lot on the road.
Only if the frame is designed for it: the head tube and the axle-to-crown length must match. For the WinSpace G5, the brand offers a RockShox fork with 30 mm of travel, which fits the standard frame.
