    Key features

    Key features
Roues Elitewheels Velo Six II, gros plan : bâton carbone

Rim and spokes are moulded in one piece from unidirectional carbon. There is no spoke tension to check, and no truing to redo after an impact.

Roues Elitewheels Velo Six II, gros plan : jante

50 mm deep, with spokes tapered to a teardrop shape. Their smaller frontal area cuts drag, and the junction with the rim has been smoothed out.

Roues Elitewheels Velo Six II, gros plan : moyeu

The 7075 aluminium hub engages every 7.2 degrees. Its teeth have angled faces that self-align, which increases the contact surface and limits wear.

The 21 mm internal rim is designed for 28 to 30 mm tyres and accepts 25 to 43 mm. Its hooks allow tubeless or an inner tube.

    Description

Velo Six II: six carbon spokes and a 50 mm rim, moulded together. Elitewheels designed it for time trials and triathlon, and it can be ridden on the road too, on 28 to 30 mm tyres.

A conventional wheel is held together by the tension of its spokes, which has to be checked and corrected after a knock. Here, there is no tension: the spokes are moulded with the rim and carry the loads through their own stiffness. Each spoke is tapered into a teardrop to reduce its frontal area. Its junction with the rim has been smoothed so that loads pass through without a break in shape. According to the brand, the larger rim section and revised layup add lateral stiffness without adding weight.

The hub was redesigned for this structure after a CAE load analysis. In 7075 aluminium, it engages every 7.2 degrees on a 50-tooth ratchet. A damaged spoke can't be swapped like a conventional one, and the brand only claims CE certification, with no UCI approval. On the first tubeless setup, the brand asks you to ride 25 km straight after adding the sealant. A Shimano 9- or 10-speed cassette needs a 1.85 mm spacer.

Elitewheels designs and machines this hub itself, and the clear-coated raw carbon finish shows the UD layup as it comes out of the mould. MAAKE reserves it for time trials and triathlon, where a wheel with no spoke tension to adjust makes complete sense.
