    Key features

Pneu gravel Hutchinson Caracal Race Gridskin, vue en coupe de la carcasse

The SwiftEasy casing weaves 127 very fine threads per inch and bonds its plies instead of stacking them. The tyre deforms over stone instead of bouncing off it, and Hutchinson claims a 10% watt saving over its previous generations.

Pneu gravel Hutchinson Caracal Race Gridskin, vue de profil

A knitted mesh covers the sidewalls, the area a sharp stone edge slices open and sealant struggles to plug. According to Hutchinson, it isolates cuts and tears with minimal impact on efficiency.

The centre of the tread is smooth to keep the Caracal Race fast in the dry. The knobs stay on the shoulder, where the tyre works in corners.

Each 5 mm step adds 80 g per tyre. The 50 mm suits wider rims, which, according to Hutchinson, push riders towards bigger volumes.

Hutchinson nominal weights, ±7% tolerance. Maximum pressure: the one printed on the tyre sidewall.
On a hookless rim, Hutchinson recommends taking 0.25 bar off its recommended pressure and never exceeding the lower of the two maximum pressures, the tyre's and the rim's.

    Description

The Caracal Race Gridskin is a gravel race tyre for fast, stony courses: the speed of the Caracal Race, with protected sidewalls.

That speed comes from the SwiftEasy casing: 127 very fine threads per inch, wrapped around the bead and bonded instead of layered. The tyre moulds itself to the stones, and Hutchinson claims a 10% watt saving over its previous generations.

The weak point of such a supple casing is the sidewall: sealant closes a small hole in the centre, rarely a cut in a sidewall that flexes on every turn of the wheel. So GridSkin knitted mesh covers the sidewalls against cuts and tears. The flip side of a race tyre: Hutchinson rates its durability 2 out of 4.

Hutchinson makes it in France; with the Touareg Race GS, it brought GridSkin to its gravel race range in 2026. We chose it to finish the races that stones cut short.
