    A woven face cuts the wind, a brushed back with a checkerboard texture keeps the air warm. Highly air-permeable, the fabric releases heat when you push and holds it when you ease off.

    Description

    The 7mesh Chilco Anorak for women is a pull-on thermal jacket for autumn gravel, bikepacking and days that end on foot. A second layer over a jersey, it also works on its own, next to the skin, when it isn't raining.

    Its fabric, WTV 300, works in two stages. The outer face, a stretch weave, stops the wind; the brushed, high-loft back keeps a layer of warm air against the body. Because the whole stays highly air-permeable, the heat of the climb gets out instead of building up, and the jacket holds warmth again as soon as the effort drops.

    On the descent, it is the wind that chills you. At 2 °C, riding at 30 km/h feels like about -4 °C on exposed skin, according to the wind chill index. The fit, close to the body but articulated for movement, leaves room for a winter base layer. With no membrane, it needs a rain jacket on top in a shower.

    WTV is 7mesh's own fabric; the brand was founded in Squamish by former Arc'teryx people. We chose this jacket for its versatility: the same jacket on the bike, on the trail and in town.
