    Description

    The Union RC works with Hope's own Union cleats. Two pairs are supplied, and replacement cleats will also have to be Hope cleats. At Hope, Race Clip is the Union for competitive cross-country and endurance.

    The dual mechanism re-engages quickly: at the front, the part that takes the cleat pivots and accepts it at a very shallow angle. After a foot down on a steep climb, the shoe finds the pedal again without searching. The whole thing weighs 324 g a pair, titanium axle included.

    With no pins, shimming sets the contact between the sole and the pedal. Depending on your sole, the supplied gauge tells you which shim to fit: 0.5 or 1 mm, or none. Too little shimming and the cleat engages poorly; too much and the foot loses stability. For a knee that doesn't like being held straight, the No. 5 cleat allows one more degree of free rotation than the No. 4. Unclipped, however, the RC doesn't have the grip of a pedal with pins.

    Hope supplies the Race Clip with the titanium axle as standard. We offer it to XC riders who would rather service a pedal than replace it.
