    Two pairs of Hope cleats come in the box: the No. 4 for a soft release, the No. 5 for a firmer release and one more degree of float.

    The axle is heat-treated, plated Cr-Mo. Hope sells the titanium axle as a spare part, for anyone who wants to lighten the pair.

    Description

    The Union TC works with Hope Union cleats, specific to the brand and supplied. Trail Clip at Hope, it surrounds the mechanism with a medium platform for trail MTB: you stay clipped in through technical sections without losing support when your foot comes out.

    It all happens around the edge: up to four pins per side, two at the front, two at the back. Clipped in, they stabilise the foot; unclipped, they give grip while you re-engage. In the centre, the Union dual mechanism, on a treated and plated Cr-Mo axle: 437 g a pair.

    Pins and spring are adjusted together. Hope recommends rear pins that just touch the sole and at least 2 mm of clearance at the front. The higher the pins, the less tension you need for the same release effort; too high at the back, they stop the heel from pivoting and releasing becomes very difficult. After every change, recheck the tension screw.

    Bearings and bushing are replaced with the Hope HTT186 tool, and the mechanism can go back to Hope for servicing. We offer it to riders who keep their pedals for several seasons.
