    The pedal body is elongated and the locking element moves behind the contact area. The cleat bolts on at two points along the centreline of the sole, on a shoe drilled for it.

    The shoe bears on 1,653 mm² of pedal, and the push is spread over a larger area. SRM sees it as a firmer connection with the bike, in corners as on descents.

    8.7 mm for the pedal alone, 9.7 mm with the cleat: 6 mm less than a conventional road system, according to SRM. Q36.5 recommends lowering the saddle by 6 mm when you fit them.

    Less height between the sole and the axle means lower shear forces, according to SRM's first tests. And a useful compensation when you move to shorter cranks.

    Description

    The SRM X-Power Direct Road only fits a shoe drilled for its cleat. The cleat bolts on at two points in line with the foot, 47 mm apart. A three-hole sole does not have this drilling: without a compatible shoe, the pedal is of no use.

    SRM lists three compatible shoes, in their 2026 versions: the Q36.5 Unique Pro 4.0, the Giant Surge Pro and the Liv Macha Pro, with more announced.

    The drilling has a reason. Above the axle, the cleat measures only 1 mm, and the whole stack drops to 9.7 mm: 6 mm less than a standard road pedal, according to SRM. Q36.5 advises lowering the saddle by the same amount. Shortening the cranks from 172.5 to 165 mm raises the foot by 7.5 mm at the bottom of the stroke: this pedal takes back 6 of them, so the saddle still has to go up by 1.5 mm.

    The X-Power Direct was born from an exchange between Ulrich Schoberer, founder of SRM and inventor of the power meter, and Luigi Bergamo, founder of Q36.5. MAAKE offers it to riders who have the right shoe and are chasing the last millimetres of their position.
