    The 410 stainless steel track is riveted to the carrier with radial float. As it heats up, it expands independently of the carrier, and Hope claims a rotor that copes with high temperatures without warping.

    The CNC-machined aluminium carrier works as a heat sink and keeps the rotor cooler. Being stiff, it gives the benefits of a thicker fixed rotor without the weight, according to Hope.

    The outer edge is cut away to clear mud and keep the braking intact when the ground gets worse.

    The track is 1.8 mm thick when new. Hope says to replace the rotor as soon as it drops below 1.5 mm: a vernier on the track is all you need to check.

    Description

    The Hope Floating Center Lock is Hope's floating MTB rotor, from 140 to 220 mm. It fits a Center Lock hub, held by a single lockring.

    It all comes down to its two parts. The 410 stainless steel braking track is riveted to a machined aluminium carrier with a degree of radial freedom. As it heats up, the track expands without dragging the carrier with it, and the carrier dissipates the heat. Hope claims a rotor that withstands high temperatures without warping.

    Diameter affects power. Going from 160 to 180 mm moves the pads further from the hub: at least 12.5% more torque for the same effort, for 33 g. Check clearance for the rivets, which stand 1 mm proud. Hope excludes its V2 and Trial calipers.

    Hope laser cuts the track, heat treats it, then grinds it so that it runs true and beds in easily. MAAKE offers it with the XCR Pro E4, a brake Hope recommends using with its own rotors.
