    On a 30 mm wide rim, the 29 × 2.40 gives 60 mm of volume according to Hutchinson. It deforms at low pressure and keeps traction through technical sections.

    Description

    The Hutchinson Python Race is a cross-country MTB tyre, in 29 × 2.40 only, built for elite XC on hardpacked terrain.

    Its centre tread is only 1.5 mm high: knobs that low barely move under load and waste little energy, which makes it the fastest-rolling tyre in Hutchinson's MTB range, according to the brand. Cornering grip comes from the side knobs, which stand prouder.

    Volume makes up for it: 60 mm on a 30 mm rim according to Hutchinson, enough to keep traction at low pressure. Its pressure chart starts at 1.40 bar for a 70 kg rider with kit, 1.15 bar on hookless. The downside: without Hardskin, Hutchinson rates it 2 out of 5 for puncture resistance. It is an XC mountain bike tyre for race day, not a gravel tyre.

    Born in the Racing Lab and developed with the Decathlon Ford Racing Team, it is handmade in France, in Châlette-sur-Loing. We offer it for a wheelset kept for racing.
