    On the chest, UF Hybrid Shell stops the wind through the density of its weave alone, with no synthetic membrane. Q36.5 calls it a “natural” windproof: the fabric breathes, which leaves you more margin before you have to open the gilet on a climb.

    In the wind tunnel, Q36.5 tracked the cold air that wraps around the rider's torso. On this third version, the thermal fabric no longer stops at the chest: it wraps around the sides and part of the back, where that air flows.

    In the centre of the back, the thermal fabric gives way to a mesh. The headwind hits the chest and shoulders and only slides over the back: that is where the heat of the effort can get out. The rear pockets are mesh too.

    The armholes are cut clean, with no folded hem. Q36.5 saves weight and gains durability and comfort: the gilet weighs 165 g in size M.

    Description

    The Q36.5 Dottore Hybrid is a gilet you put on at the start and keep on until you get home, over a long-sleeve jersey, when it is cold or the season can't make up its mind.

    Its third version comes from the wind tunnel: with its professional team and the Japanese Cycling Federation, Q36.5 tracked the cold air that wraps around the torso along the sides. So the thermal UF Hybrid Shell fabric covers the front, the sides and part of the back, and its tight weave stops the wind without a membrane. In the centre of the back, a mesh lets out the heat of the climb, where the headwind doesn't hit.

    At 50 km/h on a descent, your chest takes a force 7 wind on the Beaufort scale. The gilet only protects the torso: over a Dottore Hybrid Que jersey, your arms have nothing but the jersey; if they get cold, switch to a jacket. Try it on with your hands in the drops: flat against the chest, with no crease flapping, it should cover the top of your bib shorts.

    Q36.5 makes it in Italy and has made it its signature gilet. We chose it for the rides where a jacket would be too much and a packable gilet too little.
