    The stem body surrounds the bar over 220°, and the bolt load is aligned with the clamp. The bar is held over more than half its circumference, which is kinder to lightweight bars and allows a smaller faceplate.

    The 6° angle fits pointing up or down. On a 100 mm stem, flipping it changes the handlebar height by about 20 mm, without buying anything new.

    The body is forged from 2014 aluminium using 3D Net Shape Forging: the metal's grain follows the shape of the part, which makes it stronger. The bolts are black stainless steel.

    1-1/4" steerer stems come with a small tube slipped inside the steerer clamp. It is not a reducing shim: remove it before fitting.

    Description

    The WCS C220 84D is Ritchey's aluminium stem for road and gravel. It clamps 31.8 mm handlebars, like the WCS Butano, and comes from 60 to 140 mm for a 1-1/8" steerer, from 80 to 130 mm for 1-1/4".

    Its C220 clamp wraps 220° around the handlebar, more than half its circumference, with the bolt force aligned with the clamp. The stem hugs the bar, Ritchey says: a lightweight bar is less likely to be damaged, and the faceplate loses weight without losing stiffness.

    The 84° angle mounts at +6° or −6°. On a 100 mm stem with a 73° head angle, flipping it raises the bar by about 20 mm. It also comes about 6 mm closer: a more upright position to try without buying another stem.

    Ritchey forges the body from 2014 aluminium so that the grain of the metal follows the shape of the part. MAAKE recommends it whenever the cables stay outside; to hide them, there is the WCS Switch.
