    The closed face makes the chainring stiffer and more integrated to the eye, with a little more chain noise, according to Stone. The teeth are cut for the SRAM AXS Flattop 12-speed chain.

    Description

    The Stone Aero DUB 8-bolt crankset brings together the Stone DUB 8-bolt crank arms and the Aero SRAM 8-bolt chainring: a complete 1x road or gravel crankset. It needs a SRAM AXS Flattop 12-speed chain.

    The pairing sets the chainline in advance, the alignment of the chainring with the cassette. Every millimetre of chainring offset moves the chain by the same amount. Stone cuts this chainring with a 4.2 mm offset and quotes a 46 mm chainline for this pairing, 120 mm spindle included.

    That leaves the tooth count, which sets the gearing: going from 40 to 44T adds 10% to every pedal revolution, about 80 cm on the 11 sprocket with a 700 × 40 tyre. Choose it based on your steepest climb: that is where an oversized single chainring makes you pay.

    Stone fatigue-tests the crank and the chainring at 1,800 N. MAAKE offers it to riders who want a 1x crankset ready to fit, without working out which chainring goes with which crank.
