    The spider carries eight strain gauges and an accelerometer. An algorithm compensates for temperature, which would otherwise skew the gauge readings: Xcadey claims ±1%.

    The 150 mAh lithium battery lasts 350 hours and fully recharges in 3 hours, via a magnetic USB cable.

    The power meter transmits on both protocols: bike computers, watches, smartphones and indoor training apps. Zero offset is set from the bike computer or the Xcadey app.

    Power, cadence, left-right balance and pedalling smoothness. Balance is estimated, since the spider measures the sum of both legs.

    Description

    The XCADEY XPOWER-S GEN2 is a spider-based power meter: it takes the place of the stock spider, between the right crank and the chainrings. Nine versions cover road and MTB.

    All the torque from both legs goes through the spider. Eight strain gauges measure how it deforms, an accelerometer gives cadence and an algorithm corrects for temperature: Xcadey claims ±1%, or ±3 W at 300 W.

    350 hours of battery life is eight months at 10 hours of riding a week. The limit lies in the principle: the spider sees the sum of both legs, so left-right balance is only an estimate. To choose, look at the crank: SRAM 3-bolt, SRAM 8-bolt, Easton or Shimano refers to how the spider mounts, 4S or 5S to the number of chainring bolts.

    Xcadey offers the same electronics in 25 spider models in machined 7075 aluminium. We chose it for its Easton 110BCD-4S version, which fits the GP-3 and Ultra Cybrei cranks.
