    Warp-knitted without seams, the balaclava follows the shape of your head without creasing, and creases are where wind and cold get in. Its race fit avoids pressure points, even under the helmet.

    It uses the same yarn and the same 100% seamless knit as Q36.5 base layers. No seams means no extra thickness and no gaps to create a pressure point: the knit stays snug and supple against the skin.

    Description

    The Q36.5 Balaclava is made for very cold winters, from -5 °C to 10 °C according to the brand. In a single piece, it covers your head, neck and ears under the helmet.

    Q36.5 knits it like its base layers: same yarn, same seamless warp knit on Karl Mayer machines. With no seams, the knit hugs your head without creases, and the wind has no way in. The yarn combines Emana® polyamide with Thermolite™ polyester, whose hollow fibres trap air, for 45 g.

    Under the helmet, it all comes down to thickness. Your helmet was adjusted on a bare head: with the balaclava on, loosen the dial by one click, sit the helmet level two fingers above your eyebrows and run the chin strap over the knit, two fingers below your chin. On mornings when only your neck feels the cold, the seamless neck cover is enough.

    Q36.5 makes it in Italy, in a knit that resists abrasion and odours. We chose it for the rides when the cold finds every gap between collar and helmet.
